PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Sweden and the United States are donating US$2.6 million to help prevent sexual assaults and fight child trafficking in the settlement camps created after the devastating January 2010 earthquake, news outlets reported.
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency donated US$1 million to install solar lights in 20 of the more established settlements in the Port-au-Prince area and provide therapy and other services to assault victims, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on May 17.
In addition, US$1.6 million from the U.S. State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and UNICEF will be used to combat child trafficking, another problem aggravated by the natural disaster.
