MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay - José Mujica, whose presidential term started on March 1, said his primary goals would be to stop governmental austerity, reduce poverty and improve the education and cultural knowledge of his people. "These will be the most important goals of the governmental program," Mujica said at a media conference. "I am still socialist and dream of a less selfish society." Mujica, 74, said he will donate 87% of his salary to a foundation that builds homes for the less fortunate, and he intends to strengthen ties with Ecuador and Brazil. Mujica's inauguration was expected to be attended by numerous South American presidents and Hillary Clinton, the U.S. secretary of state.
