Tax Free Zone Venezuela
Venezuela offers two Free zones:
Zona Franca Industrial, Comercial y de Servicios de Paraguaná
This free zone is located in the Paraguana peninsula in the state of Falcon. It is under the jurisdiction and control of the Las Piedras de Paraguaná Main Customs Office.
Zona Franca Industrial, Comercial y de Servicios ATUJA (ZOFRAT)
This free zone is located in the city of Maracaibo in the state of Zulia. It is under the jurisdiction and control of the Maracaibo Main Customs Office
Pursuant to the Venezuelan Free Zone Act, there are certain restrictions regarding the kinds of activities that may be carried out inside a free zone. The activities not allowed in these areas include:
- Construction of private homes
- Retail sales
- Extraction of oil and natural gas
- Storage of merchandise causing pollution
- Any activities involving processing and handling of radioactive materials or waste, or other polluting substances
- Raising, growing, processing and sale of protected species of plants and animals
Customs Policy
Merchandise originating in and arriving in the country from abroad that is headed for a free zone is entitled to the preferential treatment outlined below:
- No customs duties.
- No domestic taxes, such as value-added, sales or similar taxes.
- No customs service charges.
- Free of tariff and tariff-related restrictions, with the exception of sanitary restrictions, animal health certificates, permits issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance, and those involving defense and social security.
- No taxes or customs duties on imports of equipment, tools and materials to be use exclusively for the construction of infrastructure, buildings and facilities for industrial free zones by the managing organizations and the users
